Why the 45° slant bed has become the industry standard for precision turning

 

In modern metalworking, the 45° slant‑bed design has become the benchmark for high‑productivity precision turning. Unlike traditional flat‑bed lathes, the inclined bed orientation offers fundamental advantages that directly impact part quality, tool life, and production efficiency:

 

  1. Efficient chip evacuation – Chips fall directly onto the conveyor or chip tray under their own weight, preventing accumulation on the workpiece, tool, or guideways. This reduces tool wear, prevents overheating, and improves surface finish.
  2. Superior rigidity and vibration resistance – The one‑piece cast iron slant bed provides a shorter kinematic chain and optimal distribution of cutting forces, allowing heavy‑duty cutting without chatter.

Model overview – TCK36A, TCK46A, and TCK50A

 

The TCK series includes three base models, each designed for specific workpiece size ranges and load requirements while maintaining high dynamic performance (rapid traverse up to 24 m/min on X/Z axes).

 

TCK36A – The entry model with 360 mm swing over bed, 300 mm machining length, 48–56 mm spindle bore, and 5.5 kW spindle motor. Spindle speed reaches up to 4,000 r/min. With a net weight of 2,500 kg, this machine is ideal for small shafts, pins, and precision components.

 

TCK46A – The mid‑range model with 460 mm swing over bed, 350 mm machining length, 56 mm spindle bore, and 7.5 kW spindle motor. Spindle speed reaches up to 3,500 r/min. Available with 8‑inch hydraulic chuck and MT5 tailstock taper. Net weight: 3,000 kg.

 

TCK50A – The largest model in the series, with 560 mm swing over bed, machining lengths from 350 mm to 1,250 mm (depending on configuration), and spindle bore options of 66 mm or 86 mm. Spindle motor power ranges from 11 kW to 15 kW, with spindle speeds up to 3,000 r/min. Available with 10‑inch hydraulic chuck and optional bar capacity up to 75 mm. Net weight ranges from 3,200 kg to 5,200 kg depending on configuration.

 

Key structural features of the TCK series

 

  • Precision Taiwanese linear guideways – Provide low friction, high traverse speeds (up to 24 m/min), and excellent repeatability without backlash.
  • High‑speed spindle assembly – TCK36A and TCK46A spindles reach 4,000 and 3,500 r/min respectively. P4‑class precision bearings ensure minimal radial runout and low heat generation during continuous operation.
  • One‑piece cast iron bed – Cast in HAIDI's own foundry from high‑strength grey iron. Natural aging of castings eliminates internal stresses, ensuring dimensional stability for years of service.
  • Horizontal turret – 8 or 12 stations, providing fast tool indexing and reliable tool clamping.
  • Optional live tooling – With C‑axis and Y‑axis, the TCK series can be equipped with a power turret, transforming the lathe into a complete turn‑mill machining center capable of milling, drilling, and tapping in a single setup.

 

CNC control options

 

HAIDI TCK series machines are available with Siemens, Fanuc, or GSK CNC controls according to customer preference. All three options provide stable 24/7 operation, support standard G‑code programming, and are familiar to engineers worldwide.

 

Accuracy and surface finish

 

With precision linear guideways, high‑quality spindles, and rigid cast iron construction, the TCK series delivers positioning accuracy of ±0.003 mm and surface finishes down to Ra 1.6 µm – eliminating the need for secondary grinding operations in many applications.
